Chief Deputy Secretary - John C. Evans
Evans joined DENR in 1992, and left the agency from 2004 to 2007 to serve as an assistant attorney general in the N.C. Department of Justice. He returned to DENR in 2008 and served as a supervisor of senior environmental engineers responsible for putting in place major air quality permitting programs in the Division of Air Quality. In August 2014, he was named DENR's general counsel. Evans is also an engineer and has worked as an engineer in the private sector. Evans has published numerous papers on environmental topics and is an honors graduate of the North Carolina Central University School of Law. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In 2013, Evans was honored by the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law's Center for Law, Environment, Adaptation and Resources for his contributions to protecting North Carolinians' right to clean and healthful air. |
